Vivo Y71i

Vivo Y71i features a 6-inch IPS LCD touchscreen with a display resolution of 720×1440 pixels. The 18:9 aspect ratio is one of the highlights of this budget-phone. Another notable feature is that Vivo has introduced the Snapdragon 425 chipset to power the phone accompanied by Adreno 308 GPU.

The phone features FunTouch OS based on Android 8.1 (Oreo) and comes with a non-removable 3,285 mAh battery, which is quite impressive for a phone in this price segment. It has 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage capacity. There are two cameras on the phone – an 8MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera.

Vivo y71i  comes in a single variant with 16 GB of internal storage and 2 GB of ram. The phone also comes in two colours: Gold and Matte Black in an Aluminium body. Sadly, the phone has gone out of stock on both Amazon and Flipkart and isn’t likely to come back for sale. As for the body, the Vivo Y71i features a full-plastic body just like its predecessor Y71. It weighs 150g and its dimensions are 155.87 x 75.74 x 7.80mm (height x width x thickness). Although it does not have a Fingerprint Sensor, it does have a Face ID feature.

The top bezel houses the selfie camera and an earpiece; the bottom bezel is empty. The volume and power buttons lie on the right panel. The bottom part houses the 3.5mm audio jack, a micro USB port, and a mic. On the top-right corner of the back, you can find the rear camera and just beside it is the LED flash.

The phone has rounded corners for comfortable handling. Overall, the design is pretty basic.

If you’re a sucker for Full view display, you are going to love this phone. The 6-inch IPS LCD screen has a resolution of  720 x 1440 pixels (269 PPI) and an aspect ratio of 18:9. The bezels have been kept on the slimmer side, thereby giving the phone with almost 78% screen-to-body ratio. The color reproduction is pretty decent. It also offers decent viewing angles.  

Vivo Y71i runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with Funtouch 4.0 skin on top. It uses a 1.4GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor coupled with Adreno 308 GPU. While the combination is good, the 2GB RAM might be a limitation. For the most part, the phone offers a smooth and lag-free performance. Switching between apps and multitasking isn’t much of an issue.

Despite the presence of the Andreno 308 GPU, the phone isn’t optimized to handle heavy-duty gaming. That aside, the Vivo Y71i does offer a decent performance when it comes to day-to-day tasks like calling, messaging, using social media apps, lightweight-gaming, listening to music, and so on.

Vivo Y71i has an 8MP rear camera (with f/1.0 aperture) and a  5MP selfie camera (with f/2.2 aperture). The rear camera comes with an array of options like AutoFocus, Touch focus, Continuous shooting, Digital zoom, Geotagging, ISO control, HDR, Panorama, and Scene modes, to name a few. The front cam, on the other hand, has an AI beauty mode along with a Face ID for biometric access.

Granted that Y71i’s camera is nothing compared to phones by Xiaomi or Oppo, but for a phone priced at under 10k, it does a good job. Both the cameras are good enough to fulfill your selfie and video recording needs.

The Vivo Y71i has a 3360 mAh non-removable battery which should be enough to last you an entire day for light-to-medium usage. For more memory and graphics-intensive tasks like gaming and online streaming, the battery levels might start to drop faster. Sadly, it does not support fast charging.

To sum up, the Vivo Y71i is a budget-smartphone that offers value-for-money. It packs in all the essential features that you can expect from a phone on a day-to-day basis. The lack of Fingerprint Sensor and fast-charging is certainly a disappointment, but then how much can you ask of a phone priced at 9K? If you are looking for an affordable phone under Rs. 10,000, Vivo Y71i can be a good buy.
