Sony Xperia XZ Premium

The Sony Xperia XZ Premium redefines Sony Xperia series with some massive and necessary improvements. Priced at Rs. 39,990, the Sony Xperia XZ Premium has the potential to beat its competitors and take the top spot in the flagship market.

Arriving with a killer performance, which is a staple for Sony, the Xperia XZ adds some differences. This time, it comes with dependable battery life and a stunning 4K display. On top of that, you get a decent camera with Slow-motion capturing technique that are ahead of their time. It is an allrounder any Sony fan or a regular user would love to have in their pockets.

The XZ Premium combines Glass, metal, and plastic build but does not seem premium enough. The Gorilla Glass 5 has been placed at the back and front making the phone quite durable.

There is a side-mounted fingerprint scanner which is quite securely positioned. At the base, there is a headphone jack and a USB Type-C port which makes it both nostalgic and modern. Plus, the phone comes with an IP68 rating; that is, it is water and dust resistant.

All in all, the phone is quite durable and has a good design, though it might seem rehashed since it has traces of Sony’s boxy model. The curved edges help it to stay comfortably in hand, but the sides reveal that they are made of plastic.

The Sony Xperia Z5 Premium comes with a 5.4-inch display and a 4K resolution of 3840 x 2160 and a fantastic density of 807 ppi. The Galaxy S8 can manage only 570 ppi, and the LG G6 will get 564 ppi. The XZ Premium will provide 4K throughout – even on the home screen.

The LCD offers crisp and clear images, and the brightness of the phone is quite satisfactory. While it may not be legible under the harsh sun, it provides an excellent brightness outside for reading text. The only problem is that the LCD screen does not have the same punchiness as an AMOLED screen.

Sony Xperia XZ Premium arrives with the excellent Snapdragon 835 chip and a generous 4GB RAM, making the XZ Premium pack quite a grunt. The phone got a benchmark of 6424 multi-core score, just a tad lesser than Galaxy S8’s 6630, but still beating Huawei P10’s 5888.

The app-loading is tremendously fast, and you can switch between apps without facing any lags. Gaming is a delight too, as the 835 processor can handle modern games easily even at high settings. All in all, the Xperia XZ Premium is a power-packer.

The Sony Xperia XZ Premium comes with an excellent 19MP rear camera with features like HDR, face detection, predictive phase detection, EIS (electronic image stabilization), and laser autofocus. In general, the images in ideal light are fantastic capturing quality details without an issue. The shots are well-exposed, and the lighting is quite accurate in the photos.

In low light, the phone struggles a bit and captures a bit of visual noise. However, the objects are still discernible.

The phone arrives with a beautiful 4K recording that will steal your heart. Plus, one of its main highlights is that it can capture slow-motion videos at an incredible 960 fps, while even iPhone 7 Plus is stuck at 240 fps. The Super Slow Motion shots are brilliant as well.

The Sony Xperia XZ Premium arrives with a 3,230m Ah non-removable battery. It is a modification from Sony’s usually poor battery stats, and it delivers too, providing a whole day of battery charge with moderate use – without a struggle.

Moderate use includes about 40 minutes of TV, an hour of gaming, Spotify streaming, social media browsing, messaging, and calls. Running a 90 minutes FullHD video at full brightness and WiFi sync on makes it lose 32% battery. The 4K display is the culprit in this case.

Thankfully, the phone supports QuickCharge 3.0, which helps replenish the battery at three times the rate, getting you a decent amount of juice within 45 minutes.

The Sony Xperia XZ Premium looks dated, but it comes with many changes. While performance-wise Sony has always been admirable, this time the XZ Premium also tackles the weak point of Sony – its battery – by providing a large juice pack.

Plus, it comes with two major features – a 4K screen and the incredible Super Slow Motion video capturing capability. It is a great phone for Sony fans and for anyone who wishes to get a high-end phone with some fantastic features to show off.

Plus, if you have a high-end handset which is about 2-3 years old, consider buying this phone. However, if you are looking for both substance and style, you may consider Samsung Galaxy G8 or Apple iPhone 7 Plus.
