POCO M2 doesn’t carry anything out of the ordinary in its spec-sheet and being a budget segment device, we didn’t expect that either. So, starting with the design, we get a familiar plastic back along with a vertically stacked camera system coupled with the physical fingerprint scanner. The device also gets a plastic frame which was kind of expected. The back is simple with no fancy texture or gradient design which we often encounter in modern budget smartphones. We get three colour options to choose from which are – Brick Red, Slate Blue and Pitch Black.
The button placement is simple with the power button and volume rockers residing on the right-hand side. At the bottom, we get the USB Type-C port for charging sitting alongside the speaker grille and audio jack. The left-hand side of the device houses the SIM/Micro-SD card slot and we also get an IR Blaster at the top.
The display on the POCO M2 does feel outdated, thanks to the water drop styled notch panel. So, at the front is a 6.53-inch Full HD+ IPS display protected by Gorilla Glass 3 on top. With a standard resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels, the device offers a 1500:1 Contrast Ratio. Even though you will not find any thick bezels around the corner, one thing surely that will disappoint is the standard refresh rate of 60Hz, unlike other POCO mid-range devices.
Coming at a budget-friendly price tag, we get some decent internals packed inside the POCO M2. Under the hood is an Octa-Core MediaTek Helio G80 chipset coupled with ARM G52 MC2 GPU. Accompanying these is a 6GB RAM along with 64/128GB options of internal storage to choose from. The storage is however expandable up to 512GB via a microSD card.
Talking about the software, we get to see the popular “POCO Clean Experience” on the POCO M2 which runs on top of Android 10. The device is expected to receive Android 11 soon.
POCO M2 brings to you a quad-camera lined vertically on the backside. Starting with, there is a 13MP primary lens, along with an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens. There are two more cameras, out of which one is a 5MP macro lens while the other is a 2MP depth sensor. The waterdrop notch on the front houses the 8MP AI selfie camera.
POCO M2 packs in a massive 5000 mAh battery so that you are never out of power when you need your POCO phone the most. To top it up, the brand provides the support for 18W fast charging with this device, even though there is no fast charger included in the box.
POCO M2 looks more or less similar in design to the latest Redmi 9 Prime, except for that circular ring around the camera. Apart from offering a decent chipset at this price, the base variant comes with 6GB RAM which is quite fascinating at Rs.10,999 price tag. Do not worry for the discharge as 5000 mAh battery would be sufficient to drive you through the day. But honestly, there is a lot of competition, a lot of options to consider, and a dearth of new launches in the mid-range segment. POCO M2 is just another addition.
