Oppo A55

The OPPO A55 smartphone was unveiled today in India by the company. It is the successor of the OPPO A54, which was introduced by OPPO in India earlier this year. It comes with a 50MP triple camera system, which is the exhibition area of the Oppo A55 and a 5,000mAh battery, 6GB of RAM, and other notable features are available on the device. Let’s take a look at the smartphone’s full set of specs and pricing. 

Oppo A55 price in India 

The Oppo A55 pricing in India is Rs. 15,490 for 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant. A 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant costs Rs. 17,490. Both choices come in Rainbow Blue and Starry Black. The 4GB + 64GB variant will be available from October 3, while the 4GB + 128GB model will be available from October 11. Both will be sold through Amazon, Oppo India E-Store, and local retailers.

The Oppo A55 comes with Rs. 3,000 immediate discount on HDFC Bank cards and Amazon EMI purchases. Three months of Amazon Prime Membership worth Rs. 329 will be included. Prime subscribers will also receive a six-month free screen replacement guarantee. 

Design 

On the exterior, it has a 3D curved body finish, and weighs 193 grams and measures 8.4mm, making it one of the slimmest smartphones available. It is equipped with a fingerprint sensor that is placed on the side. It also has an IPX4 certification, which means it is splash-resistant. The punch-hole at the top left corner appears quite small and the overall bezels around the screen are very minimum.

Display 

The Oppo A55 features a 6.51-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of HD+ and a pixel density of 294 pixels per inch. In addition to having a normal 60Hz refresh rate, the screen also features a 120Hz touch sampling rate, and the brightness can be increased up to 550 nits. There is a 20:9 aspect ratio and an 89.2 per cent screen-to-body ratio on this device. Considering the price tag, there are multiple features missing here including a higher refresh rate and FHD+ resolution and maybe a deal-breaker for this device.  

Performance 

When it comes to the internals, the OPPO A55 is driven by a MediaTek Helio G35 SoC, which is a well-known cheap SoC that was introduced last year in the market. The Cortex A53 cores are capable of reaching clock rates of up to 2.3GHz. The SoC is accompanied by the IMG PowerVR GE8320 GPU for graphics. Additionally, the gadget is equipped with up to 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of internal storage space. 

In addition to ColorOS 11.1 out of the box, the OPPO A55 comes with additional useful features like a Game Focus mode, system booster, and storage optimizer.

Camera 

The main strength of the OPPO A55 is its camera system.  It has triple back cameras, including a 50 MP main camera, a 2MP macro camera, and a 2MP depth/bokeh sensor. The back camera is driven by artificial intelligence (AI), which employs pixel binning to produce brighter images even in low-light situations. On the front, there is a 16MP selfie camera that is also AI-enabled.

Battery 

The Oppo A55 is equipped with a 5000mAh battery that provides about 30 hours of talk time or 25 hours of music and video. Additionally, the smartphone has 18W Fast Charge technology, which charges the device up to 33% in only 30 minutes. An optimised night charging and super night standby mode reduces power consumption at night so the battery only loses 1.37 per cent in eight hours on the OPPO A55.

Verdict 

Coming to the verdict, the Oppo A55 is meant for those who are on a low budget and are looking for a decent camera phone along with a large battery. For the rest, the device offers a meagre display and the chipset is not meant for heavy gaming, which makes the overall package overpriced. Also, the 5G connectivity is absent here. At the same price, the Realme 8 5G provides better specs than the Oppo A55. So, the final choice is yours.
