Apple could be preparing a major upgrade for the iOS 27 Camera App. A new leak based on the latest developer beta has revealed several camera-focused features that could give iPhone users more professional controls.
The upcoming iOS 27 Camera App is reportedly set to gain tools such as waveform and histogram displays, focus peaking and highlight clipping. Some of these features could also be linked to the camera hardware of the upcoming Apple iPhone 18 Pro models.
iOS 27 Camera App Could Get Pro-Level Tools
According to the leak, Apple has implemented waveform and histogram displays in the Camera app. These tools can help users monitor exposure across shadows, mid-tones and highlights while taking photos or recording videos.
The iOS 27 Camera App could reportedly offer three display modes:
- RGB Composite
- RGB Parade
- Luminance
Apple is also said to be working on focus peaking, which can highlight the areas that are currently in focus. Another reported feature is highlight clipping, which could help users identify overexposed areas in an image.
These additions could make the iPhone Camera app more useful for photographers and content creators who want greater control over their shots.

iPhone 18 Pro May Unlock More Camera Features
The leak also mentions manual focus controls in the Camera app. However, this feature could be restricted to newer iPhone models.
Apple is reportedly testing camera controls that work alongside the variable aperture system expected on the iPhone 18 Pro. The software could also select and blend lens-correction data based on the aperture value to improve image processing.
While these features are reportedly present in the iOS 27 beta, Apple could still change or remove some of them before the final release. More details could be revealed during the iPhone 18 Pro launch event on September 9.
