Instagram Goes Down For Few Hours: What We Know So Far

Several Instagram users reported issues while using the app on Thursday, September 2, 2021. As per downtime tracking site, Downdetector, thousands of Instagram users experienced the same issue with the app. Although it is down globally it looked India got the worst hit as complaints came from everywhere in numbers. However, the company did not acknowledge the issue officially. It did fix the issue nearly two hours after the issue first emerged.

According to users, Instagram crashed or did not load any post. Whereas, some of them also had issues in sending Direct Messages (DMs) to friends. Meanwhile, the company is yet to issue a statement on the same. Many users received the “We are sorry, but something went wrong. Please try again.” pop up. Initially, people thought it’s an issue with their internet connection. However, people started to report issues in no time. Many users even tried deleting and reinstalling the Instagram app. Although it did not work.

The problem behind the outage is not clear because Facebook did not address the issue publicly. Although the company seems to have begun fixing it. Downdetector shows a steep fall in the number of outage reports at least for the past two hours. The maximum reports started at around 12.30 pm with a peak of over 3,500 cases for Instagram.

Internet outages like this have become quite normal now. However, companies such as Facebook, Google, and Twitter try their best to bring services back up, sometimes the amount of time taken for the restoration of services is more than expected. To recall, Google’s outage last year took hours to come to normal working.
