WhatsApp has published its May monthly report in accordance with the Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code Rules, 2021. According to recent reports, the WhatsApp has banned over 19 lakh Indian accounts in a month, primarily for violating the platform’s limitations. The most recent report runs from May 1, 2022 to May 31, 2022.

WhatsApp Banned Over 19 Lakh Accounts
“In line with the IT Rules 2021, we’ve published our report for the month of May 2022,” a WhatsApp spokeswoman said of the new monthly report.
This user-safety report contains information about user complaints and WhatsApp’s responses. The app banned nearly 1.9 million accounts in May, according to the most recent Monthly Report.”
WhatsApp previously stated that they will be banning the accounts if the users will be breaking the company’s standards. WhatsApp, for example, disables accounts if they involve disseminating fraudulent information, forwarding an unverified message to several contacts, and so on.

To address such incidents, the messaging platform has implemented a number of initiatives, including external link verification and others. The messaging software also flags messages that have been forwarded several times, which are usually false.
WhatsApp also makes tools and resources available to help prevent abusive activity on the network. “We are especially focusing on prevention because we believe it is far better to prevent bad behaviour than to detect it after harm has occurred.”
