Rockstar Games is preparing a massive open world for GTA 6, with Vice City returning as the main location. However, the new game is expected to go far beyond the city, with a much larger Leonida map featuring different regions, towns, islands and outdoor areas.

Recent details have offered a closer look at how players could explore the world, use the map and interact with different locations. While some of these details come from reports and previews rather than direct Rockstar confirmation, they suggest that GTA 6 could deliver a much more detailed open world than GTA 5.

GTA 6 Map Could Be Much Bigger Than GTA 5

According to the details shared in the report, the GTA 6 map could be around twice the size of GTA 5's map. Vice City itself is reportedly around twice the size of Los Santos, while the developed areas outside the city could be significantly larger.

The wider Leonida region is reportedly divided into five counties and could feature around 10 cities and towns. The map will also include multiple islands and underwater areas, giving players more reasons to explore beyond the main city.

Players may also find hundreds of accessible interiors. Some buildings with helipads are reportedly designed to be fully explorable, with stairs and elevators connecting different floors without loading screens.

Mount Kalaga is also expected to be the highest point in Leonida.

The map in GTA 6 is reportedly designed to do more than simply help players navigate. A detailed pause-menu map could use satellite-style 3D imagery to show buildings, businesses, gang locations and other points of interest.

This could become particularly useful during missions and heists. The map may show possible entrances, exits and even information about available loot.

GTA 6 is also expected to use a fog-of-war system, keeping unexplored areas hidden until players travel through them.

Getting around Leonida may not always require a car. Players could reportedly use buses, trains, taxis, RydeMe ride-sharing and the Metromover. These journeys may also allow players to interact with NPCs and listen to the radio.

The map could also connect with GTA 6's wanted system. Areas where crimes have taken place may develop temporary police "heat" zones, while higher wanted levels could expand police activity across larger parts of Leonida.

With a larger map, more interiors and deeper exploration systems, GTA 6 appears set to make Vice City much more than just a backdrop for the story.
