Google Pixel 6A Likely To Launch in May 2022: Reports

Google launched its newest series last year, the Pixel 6 series. It included two models – a standard Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. Interestingly, the series also launched with an all-new Tensor chip from the company. But as hinted earlier, it looks like the company is planning to add another model to its lineup – Google Pixel 6a. Now, the tipster claims that the upcoming Google Pixel Watch will also launch during the Pixel 6a launch.

Moreover, a few reports have surfaced online shedding some light on the upcoming Google Pixel 6a. These reports show the purported design as well as some of the key expected specifications of the upcoming Google Pixel 6a. Now reports of the Pixel A-series launching in May 2022 have surfaced online.

According to Jambor, the Google Pixel 6a is scheduled for May 2022. To recall, the Google Pixel 5a 5G launched in August 2021. Its predecessor Pixel 4a unveiled in August 2020. However, the Pixel 3a launched during the Google I/O event. It happened in May 2019. Hence, it is likely that the upcoming Google I/O event in May could see the arrival of the Pixel6A. Although we can attribute the delays after Pixel 3a to the pandemic which hit the world in 2020.

Furthermore, Google is expecting to announce the Pixel Watch on May 26, 2022. It is the seemingly likely date for the next Google I/O conference. Since Google might unveil the Pixel 6a and the Pixel Watch during the same month.

Google Pixel 6a: What We Know So Far

Although there is not much known of the specs or price officially. Some rumours and leaks have hinted at some key specs of the smartphone. A few months back, renders in crisp 5K resolution surfaced online courtesy of Steve Hemmerstoffer aka OnLeaks.

According to the renders, the smartphone will get a hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera, no 3.5mm headphone jack, and a dual rear camera setup. Moreover, the mid-range smartphone may get a two-tone finish with a glass back. The back may sport a camera island for its dual-rear cameras. This is similar to other Pixel 6 series models. It is said to measure 152.2×71.8×8.7mm (10.4mm including rear camera bump).

Although at the front, the phone will feature a flat 6.2-inch OLED display with a punch-hole camera at the centre. Google Pixel 6a will also house an in-display fingerprint scanner — one that’s hopefully better than the buggy and slow sensor found on the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. It may also run on Android 12 out of the box. It will have support for 3 years of software updates.

At the same time, reports of the smartphone’s processor also surfaced online. It will apparently power on the same Tensor SoC as the Pixel 6. Moreover, Pixel 6a may get the same design as the Google Pixel 6. This again coincides with the rumour/render from OnLeaks.

Meanwhile, another tipster — Jon Prosser tweeted that Google Pixel Watch may launch on May 26, 2022. Prosser also shared an image that shows a few renders of the upcoming smartwatch from Google. At the moment, it shows Blue, Grey, and Orange straps with a Black circular dial. Prosser also says, “Google is known for pushing back dates — but if they do, we’ll know.”

Although this leak does not shed any light on the specs or pricing of the Google Pixel 6a. But we should not be worried about that aspect, as Google smartphone’s leak ahead of their launch. It is only a matter of time before that happens.
