Qualcomm is stepping up its game by building its own special computer parts called CPU architectures, moving away from using parts made by another company called ARM. This started when Qualcomm bought a company named Nuvia, which led to the development of new technology called Oryon cores.
Meet the New Snapdragon Chips
Qualcomm’s latest major innovation is the second-generation Oryon cores featured in the Snapdragon 8 Elite mobile platform. This new chip is currently powering the latest smartphones from nearly every major manufacturer, demonstrating Qualcomm’s leadership in mobile technology. They’re also working on a third generation of these cores to make computers run even better in the future.

Recently, someone spotted a new type of Qualcomm chip called the Snapdragon X2 Ultra Premium, or “X2-000-096.” This chip could be even more powerful than the ones they’ve made before. With improvements like supporting twelve memory channels—50% more than the older versions.
Qualcomm Takes on the Big Guys
The Snapdragon X2 Ultra Premium Chipset, also known as SC8480XP, looks very promising. It could make computers much faster and better, helping Qualcomm compete with big names like AMD and Intel in the computer market.
Insiders have found that Qualcomm tested these new chips in computers with special cooling systems, which means they’re serious about competing in the computer market. Tests for some of these new chips, nicknamed Glymur, started as early as the third quarter of 2024.
