LG Q Stylus Plus

The LG Q Stylus Plus sports a 6.2-inch touchscreen with a screen resolution of 1080×2160 pixels and an 18:9 aspect ratio. It runs on Android v8.1 (Oreo) OS and is powered by an octa-core MediaTek MT6750 Processor. Also, it has a Mali-T860 MP2 GPU for enhanced graphical performance. It offers 4GB RAM and 64GB internal memory, expandable up to 512GB via microSD card.

The phone uses a 3300mAh battery. As for the cameras, the phone features a 16MP camera on the rear and a 5MP selfie camera at the front. It has sensors like Fingerprint Sensor, Ambient Light Sensor, Proximity Sensor, Accelerometer, Compass, and Gyroscope. It has an IP68 rating for dust and water protection.

The LG Q Stylus Plus is available in three colour options – Aurora Black, Moroccan Blue, and Lavender Violet colours. In India, the phone costs around Rs. 14,950.

The LG Q Stylus Plus sports a solid metal casing, with an acrylic-like plastic back cover. The transition from the polycarbonate back panel to the metal casing is entirely seamless. The phone has military standard certification, meaning that it is shockproof. Also, it has an IP68 certification, which makes it water and dust resistant.

The back cover features the 16MP camera, along with an LED flash placed just under it. The Fingerprint Sensor rests below the camera module. The right side of the body holds the volume rocker, a primary SIM slot (nano-SIM + microSD card) and a secondary slot (nano-SIM). At the right, you can find the power button. The bottom portion of the body houses the Stylus pen, a USB Type-C port, a speaker, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a mic.

The phone boasts of a 6.2-inch FHD+ FullVision IPS LCD screen with a resolution 1080×2160 pixels and a pixel density of 390 PPI. Although there’s no notch, the phone still manages to offer an expansive screen space. The colours are for the most part good, but you might notice a slight blue cast (which can be fixed and adjusted through the blue light filter in the display settings). The viewing angles are also decent and stable. So, you can view the display content from all angles without losing screen brightness or colours. As far as outdoor legibility is concerned, it works fine on overcast days. However, on extremely sunny and bright days, it becomes difficult to view the screen content. To be precise, the display can be seen from any angle and light conditions, provided there’s no glare or reflection.

MediaTek MT6750 Processor clocked at 1.8GHz powers the phone. Along with this, it also incorporates a Mali-T860 MP2 GPU to handle the graphical performance. Thanks to 4GB RAM, the overall performance remains smooth and lag-free. You shouldn’t face any hiccups while performing routine tasks on the phone like calling, texting, light gaming, social media browsing, etc. Even multitasking and navigating between apps is never an issue – everything happens pretty smoothly.

One thing to know about the phone performance is that it is not built for heavyweight gaming. While it can handle games like Candy Crush, Temple Run, etc., the performance stutters greatly for graphics-intensive games like PUBG, Asphalt, Tekken, and so on. So, passionate gamers would want to stay away!

As for the user interface and software, it basically leans towards delivering the stock Android experience. The UI is user-friendly and intuitive. While the Fingerprint Sensor is very responsive and fast, the Face Unlock feature works relatively slower to unlock the phone.

The LG Q Stylus Plus features a 16MP rear camera and an 8-MP selfie camera.

The rear camera can snap sharp and detailed images in daylight conditions. It is quick to lock focus. However, with the zoom feature, sometimes the background tends to get blurry and out of focus. The camera app offers a lot of filters and effects to enhance images. Coming to low-light shots, the images lack details and depict a lot of noise. Most pictures taken in low-light conditions appear grainy. The colours never pop out. Also, the images seem so dark that it is difficult to identify the main object.

The performance of the 8MP selfie camera is average at best. In favourable lighting conditions, the captured shots appear crisp with a lot of details. However, the portrait shots are only mediocre. In low light settings, the front camera struggles to perform – the captured images look blurry and lacking in detail.

The rear camera can record 1080p videos at 30fps. Thanks to an image stabilizer, the videos never look shaky.

The phone has a 3300mAh battery with fast-charging support. The fast charger comes bundled in the box. It takes about one and a half hours for the battery to get fully charged. The battery can pull through an entire day smoothly for average to medium usage. However, if you use the phone for extensive gaming or video streaming, the battery charge drops faster than usual.

Connectivity options on the phone are –  Wi-Fi 802.11, /b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, Mobile Hotspot, Bluetooth v4.2, USB Type-C port, dual-SIM, FM Radio, GPS with A-GPS and Glonass, and 2G/3G/4G support.

Overall, the LG Q Stylus Plus can be a reliable daily driver, but it is definitely not the phone for gamers. Since it does not offer anything extraordinary, it gets lost in the crowd of mid-range smartphones. Under the 15k price segment, you can get phones like the Nokia 5.1 Plus, the Realme 1, the Realme 2, the Mi 5 Pro, and Asus ZenFone Max Pro.
