Thanks to the global Coronavirus pandemic, Apple decided to postpone the launch of its mid-ranged iPhone SE 2020 smartphone which was earlier scheduled to occur on March 31st. But after so many leaks about the specifications and the release date, the device is finally here. The Cupertino giant silently launched its latest mid-range phone without any launch event or whatsoever.
The iPhone SE launch got official just a few hours ago via a simple press release. The device, which was previously being hunted to get called as the iPhone 9 or the iPhone SE 2, flaunts the same specifications that leaks and renders have shown us previously. The iPhone SE can be called as a revamped version of the iPhone 8, with minor tweaks in the internals.
Not only a mid-ranger, the iPhone SE 2 is actually the cheapest that the company has offered. It comes at the same price at which the iPhone SE came out. Yes, it can be argued that the iPhone se 2 price in India is a hefty Rs. 42,500, but it’s still launched for just $399 in the US. And the $399 iPhone SE 2 price is justified considering that it’s still the cheapest package including the best processor and camera system that Apple has offered in the recent years.
iPhone SE (2020) Specifications
We get to see the same thick and chunky bezels, a glass back, physical fingerprint sensor or the ‘Touch ID’ and a single rear camera module. Yes, the design is pretty outdated, but we cannot expect anything better from Apple at this price. The iPhone SE 2020 or the iPhone SE 2 gets the same 4.7-inch HD Retina display with a resolution of 1,334×750 pixels and a pixel density of 326ppi. Weighing just 148g, the device measures 138.4 x 67.3 x 7.3 mm.
Under the hood is where things get exciting. So, there is the latest A13 Bionic chipset inherited from the iPhone 11 series under the hood. The RAM capacity isn’t disclosed yet, but we do get an option to choose between 64GB, 128GB or 256GB of internal storage. Apple claims that with the A13 bionic chip, the iPhone SE 2 is 40 percent faster than the iPhone 8.

Camera department is pretty simple. There’s a single 12MP shooter with f/1.8 aperture. We now get Portrait Mode, Portrait Lighting Effects, and Depth Control as addition to the camera features. It also supports Smart HDR and 4K video recording at 60FPS. At the front is a 7MP shooter for selfies.

Coming to the battery department, Apple says the battery life is the same as we have experienced with the iPhone 8, which according to our usage, lasted enough for a full day. The device does get wireless charging support and fast charging support, but you’ll have to invest in a separate charger for that.
Pre-orders start from April 17th and the phone will go on sale starting April 24th in various regions including India.
