iPhone SE vs Apple iPhone SE 2 Specifications

The iPhone SE 2 seems to be a revamped version of the iPhone 8, especially when considering the design. But how much does it differ from the original iPhone SE or the iPhone SE that came out in 2017? Here’s a complete breakdown of the complete specifications

iPhone SE vs Apple iPhone SE 2 Specifications

The iPhone SE launch date was April 8, 2016, in India whereas iPhone SE 2 launch date was April 15, 2020. iPhone SE launch price was $399 in the US, which is the same as the iPhone SE 2020 launch price.

Firstly, talking about the physical appearance and design, we got to see a complete change in design in the new iPhone 2020. The iPhone SE 2020 resembles iPhone 8 in design with curved corners and edges whereas the iPhone SE had rectangular and boxy design along with sharp edges and corners. The iPhone SE 2 also didn’t inherit the much desired 3.5mm audio jack which the iPhone SE did offer.

The screen size has also got a significant upgrade from what we have seen on the iPhone SE. The iPhone SE 2 now gets a larger 4.7-inch Retina HD IPS display with a resolution of 750×1,334 pixels compared to the 4-inch Retina IPS display with a resolution of 640×1,136 pixels on the iPhone SE. The screen quality is mostly the same, it’s the size which differs.

Powertrain gets a significant upgrade as we get the latest A13 Bionic chip, which comes with a third-generation Neural Engine on the new iPhone SE 2. The iPhone SE has a four-year old A9 chip that gets the M9 co-processor. According to benchmark scores, the A13 on the newer model has a better instruction set architecture, a higher clock speed and is more power efficient. This can be claimed by looking at the Geek bench 5 scores of both the chipsets, the A9 (Single Core-550; Multi Core-994) and the A13 (Single Core-1332; Multi Core-3570).

The iPhone SE had 16GB and 64GB storage options initially with colour options as – Gold, Rose Gold, Silver, and Space Grey colour. This was later replaced with 32GB and 128GB storage options by the company. The iPhone SE 2 is available in Black, White, and RED with 64/128/256GB storage options to choose from.

Coming to the optics, we do get a similar single-camera setup at both the front and back of both the devices. So, there’s a single 12-megapixel (f/2.2) shooter with 4K video recording support at the back of both the smartphones. At the front is a 1.2-megapixel (f/2.4) shooter on the iPhone SE whereas the new iPhone SE 2020 gets a 7-megapixel (f/2.2) camera on the front. Although these might look the same on paper, real-life photography has a vast difference, possibly due to quality of sensors, optimization and software compatibility.

Battery department on paper doesn’t get much upgrade with the iPhone SE getting a 1642 mAh whereas the iPhone SE 2 flaunting a slightly bigger 1960 mAh cell. However, real-life usage is purely different with the new model giving a more reliable battery life.

As far as connectivity options are concerned, the iPhone SE has 4G LTE, Bluetooth v4.2, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, GPS, VoLTE, a 3.5-inch headphone jack and NFC. The newer model has Bluetooth v5.0, GPS, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac (Wi-Fi 6) support and NFC.
