How to switch off the speech and audio activities?

You may disable Google’s ability for recording your voice to save your voice messages and audio activities by changing the settings in your Google account. The Google Assistant (with Google Home speakers) will stop operating until you re-enable voice searches, which will take a few minutes.

Here’s how to accomplish it on a personal computer:

    1. Go to myactivity.google.com to begin.
    2. Select the setting bars in the upper left corner of the screen.
    3. From the menu, choose Activity Controls to start.
    4. Turn on or off the option to include audio recordings.

Google will ask you if you’re sure and provide you with further information about what pausing speech and audio implies. If you’re still interested in proceeding, click I Agree. If you disagree, choose No thanks.

How to do it on a mobile app (you can alternatively follow the PC instructions and do it on a mobile browser):

    1. Launch the Google Home application.
    2. Select your profile from the drop-down menu in the upper right.
    3. Select My Activity from the drop-down menu.
    4. Select the Save Activity option.
    5. Select whether or not to include audio recordings in the output.

Why Google is recording my voice?

    Answer: Data

There is no simple answer to this question; Google keeps a record of your activity to monitor and keep track of the app activity to identify potential malware threats, attacks and analyse information to improve the user experience. You can emphasise the Improve user experience part.

Technically speaking, every single command you give trains the AI/ML systems to understand your speech synthesis better; to create or generate a more natural response from the Google assistant, the more data it has on you, the more it can analyse the information and talks about the subject that you are referring to, just like a human being. This AI concept, in technical terms, is called NLP (Natural language processing).

Is It a violation of my Privacy?

This is a grey area, sure Google is recording your voice and any personal information that remotely relates to you is a violation of privacy. However, we are all subject to corporate policies and terms & conditions when signing up for Google Account. We all unintentionally allow Google to keep a generic record of every activity we are doing on its platform. And since Google has already provided an option for you to stop it from recording any activity or history of your Data, google can quickly get away with it.

You can turn off Location History, website data, app activity and even YouTube watch history by simply turning off the button from my activity page. However, this information that you’re stopping Google from recording your voice is visible and in your control; there is third-party information that Google keeps to provide you certain services you have to provide. Sadly, you can’ keep that away from Google’s platform. E.g. The location data you share while you’re driving your car and commuting to work this information is used to provide you with route and traffic details. We technically can’t stop Google from using our information for third-party use; because some of the services largely rely on our data in one way or another.

    Conclusion

There is no simple way to put this; Google is recording your voice, activity and other app details. Remember when you were changing your smartphone, and all you had to do was log in to your next smartphone, and everything on your last phone was just there? Well, that is the benefit you get by storing data on and from Google recording your voice. If you look at it, I guess it is right to do so; it is simply convenient and more user friendly. However, it does have a negative effect on our data privacy since everything is on a centralised network. So my suggestion would be not to worry too much about it as of now, but one should always be cautious of what information you’re keeping on the cloud.
