With the nationwide lockdown extended until May 17th, the centre has uplifted some restrictions which were earlier pretty harsh for the e-commerce platforms.

E-commerce platforms such as Amazon and Flipkart are now allowed to sell non-essential products along with essential ones in orange and green zones from May 4 onwards. Though it sounds a relief to these giants, the irony is that a large percentage of sellers are located in areas declared Red zones, leading only a small number of merchants to sell their goods online. However, if you are lucky enough to be in green or orange zones and the seller also fulfils the same criteria, you can now get non-essential products such as smartphones, TVs and laptops get delivered at your doorstep.

E-commerce giants such as Amazon and Flipkart welcomed the Government’s plan to allow selling of non-essential products and thus serve consumers in the Orange and Green zones. They also claimed to keep supplying essentials/grocery items in Red zones through a safe supply chain and SOPs. India MD Manu Kumar Jain also came up on Twitter and appreciated the government for its smart move to regulate activities based on zones.
