Samsung Galaxy Note 7

Every year Samsung releases a new flagship with the best features and system performance on the market. With the arrival of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, the tradition continues. The Galaxy Note 7 brings the return of the expandable storage, IP68 water resistance feature, a new super AMOLED display that supports mobile HDR, a retina scanner, and most importantly an improved S-pen.

The Silver Samsung Galaxy Note 7, with 64GB internal memory and 4GB RAM runs for Rs 59,999. It comes with a 5.7inch curved touchscreen display with 1440 x 2560 pixels at a PPI of 518 pixels per inch. This flagship is powered by 1.6GHz octa-core processor, and has 64 gigs of internal storage that can be expanded up to 256GB with a microSD card. The phone runs Android 6.0.1 and a 3500mAh non-removable battery. It measures 153.50×73.90×7.90 and weighs 169gm. Further, it also houses a 12-megapixel primary camera on the rear and a 5-megapixel front shooter for selfies.

The Galaxy Note 7 is a beautiful looking device; it certainly highlights how Samsung has taken their sweet time to focused on the details with this one. It’s the first to have a dual curved glass design, the first waterproof Galaxy Note, and also the first to be perfectly symmetrical from top to bottom. The Galaxy Note 7 also marks the first Samsung smartphone to have a USB type C connector at the bottom with a micro USB adapter being supplied in the box by the company. Another novelty and one that was expected in the last Note is the iris scanner – it’s an added security to the fingerprint scanner and is easy and fast to set up. The fingerprint scanner doesn’t seem to have changed a lot – it’s just as fast and efficient as it was on the Galaxy S7 Edge.

The Galaxy Note 7 has a 5.7-inch super AMOLED screen with 1440×2560 pixels at a PPI of 518 pixels per inch. Samsung chose not to increase the screen size for the Note 7 and instead went ahead with reducing the bezels around the screen, making them curved, similar to that of the Galaxy S7 edge.
The 5.7 inch AMOLED is very sharp and bright, and the colours are naturally vibrant, but there’s also a more accurate screen mode which increases overall definition. The Note 7’s display is the first to support HDR video technology which is lately finding its way into the high-end HTTP market. If provided with the right content and under the scrutiny of the Accurate mode, the Galaxy Note 7 can display an array of colours in a vibrant output, with its performance being focused on the AMOLED display.

The new Galaxy Note 7 comes with latest tweaked TouchWiz running Android OS available on the market. It comes with a few noticeable changes such as the new lock screen which changes its colours when you tilt the phone and a redesigned quick navigation panel. The phone has also borrowed the “edge” feature of the Galaxy 7 Edge. You get apps “edged” (Displayed on the side panel), with shortcuts to your favourite apps, people edge (Contact and social media accounts of people), weather edge (weather report), a calendar, and more.
Naturally, the S-pen functionality is an integral part of the Galaxy Note 7 experience. Samsung has included many features in the phone for the stylus, one of which is the notes app which lets you scribble and write anything and everything with the S-pen.

The Galaxy Note 7 uses the same capable 12MP rear shooter that was used for the Galaxy S7. It has a large and an aperture, along with a great dual-pixel facial detection technology. The camera app has been simplified and can now be easily controlled with swipes. Using these, you can go to the different shooting effects or shooting modes, and you can even switch to the selfie camera with ease. Samsung’s “pro-mode” allows you to take full control of the shooting parameters like shutter speed, ISO, white balance, and focus. The photos look almost identical to the ones from Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. They are well-contrasted and saturated but a bit oversharpened as well.

The note 7 appears to have a slightly improved dynamic range compared to its counterpart and the brighter optics and optical stabilisation allow for some nicely exposed shots in low light.

If we deemed the previous Galaxy Note 5 a misstep for the lack of expandable storage and the limited regional availability, the Galaxy Note 7 is Samsung’s way of getting back on track. They’ve brought back the expandable storage and have also added waterproofing functionality to the dual curved screen. After all, why choose between a good screen and an S-Pen, when you can have both? Then there is the Iris scanner and the reversible type C charging port, as well as the virtual assistant Bixby. The Galaxy note7 is Samsung’s best smartphone with a stylus and fortifies its position in a tough market – amongst competitors who can only try and play catch-up.
