Vivo T3x 5G Review: New Budget Battery Beast!

The base variant of the Vivo T3x 5G comes with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage for a price of Rs.13,499. The 6GB+128GB model and 8GB+128GB variant retail for Rs.14,999 and Rs.16,499, respectively.

The phone is available on Flipkart and Vivo India website. You can purchase it in Crimson Bliss and Celestial Green colours.

Before we talk in detail about the device, let’s see what the on-paper specs look like:

The Vivo T3x features a large circular camera module on the right corner with a ring around it. I have the Celestial Green colour, which has a textured pattern with a brush stroke finish similar to the Realme P1.

Furthermore, the back of the phone has curved edges that make it easy to hold in the hand. Despite being a budget phone, its unique design stands apart from the rest of the competition.

The camera ring around the module feels premium, and the brush-stroked pattern gives it a distinct look. This large camera module also houses the dual camera setup and the LED flash.

The Vivo branding is at the bottom, and the rest of the phone remains clean. Despite packing a sizeable 6,000mAh battery, the phone weighs around 199 grams and is just 8mm thick, which makes it easy to hold in the hand.

Coming to ports and placements, the power button and volume rocker are on the right. The left side has the SIM tray, while the top remains. Similarly, the USB-C port and speaker grille are at the bottom. The Vivo T3x also boasts an IP64 rating for protection against water splashes and dust.

The Vivo T3x sports a 50-megapixel primary camera and a 2-megapixel secondary camera. On the front, you get an 8-megapixel selfie camera. Unfortunately, there is no ultrawide-angle lens, which would have been a better pick than the depth sensor.

The 50-megapixel sensor takes excellent photos during the day, with balanced colours and plenty of detail. Vivo has tuned the primary camera for neutral colours, which some might prefer while others won’t.

The 2-megapixel depth sensor, on the other hand, is only good on paper, and its output isn’t very usable. Adding an ultrawide angle sensor would have made it a versatile camera phone, but I guess it would have probably increased the overall cost.

In low-light scenarios, the output is a mixed bag as the camera fails to maintain consistency. Sometimes, the photos are just amazing with proper exposure and highlights, while at other times, they tend to crush the shadows and struggle with multiple light sources.

Sadly, low-light camera performance remains the Achilles heel of budget phones, and I noticed a similar issue during my review of the Realme P1. The front camera is an 8-megapixel sensor with acceptable output and respectable skin tones. The video recording on the T3x is limited to 1080p on the 4GB and 6GB variants, while you get 4K support on the 8GB variant, which is a bit strange.

The Vivo T3X is one of the few phones in this segment to pack a massive 6,000mAh battery, meaning you will get tired by the end of the day, but your phone won’t. During my usage, the phone easily lasted two days of medium usage, which included scrolling through social media apps, taking photos, and casual gaming.

Furthermore, the 45W charger in the box can fully top up the phone in 1 hour and 30 minutes. Thanks to the mammoth battery, you can easily expect the phone to last one day with heavy usage and two days with moderate usage.

Overall, the Vivo T3x 5G offers one of the largest battery in this segment and superfast charging, making it a reliable choice for those who prioritize battery backup.

The Vivo T3x boast a large 6.72-inch Full-HD+ LCD screen with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. Furthermore, the phone has a peak brightness of 1000 nits despite having an LCD screen.

On the front, you will be greeted by a centre punch hole cutout with slim bezels. However, a sizeable chin is present at the bottom to remind you that it is a budget device.

The screen’s default setting is warm, but I changed it to cool because I found it better suited to my needs. Thanks to the 1000 nits of peak brightness, I could easily use it during the day. Similarly, the TUV Rheinland certification ensures you can use it in pitch-dark conditions without suffering the harmful effects of blue light.

When it comes to content consumption, I had an enjoyable experience as I binged through Season 1 of Hijack on Apple TV+. However, I did miss the dark blacks and punchy colours of an AMOLED panel that competitors like the Realme P1 offer. I hope Vivo will opt for an AMOLED display in the future.

The 120Hz refresh rate makes navigating through the user interface smooth. You can opt for 60Hz and 120Hz, depending on your preference. I choose the latter as you do not have to worry about the battery life thanks to the 6,000mAh battery.

When it comes to audio, you get a stereo speaker setup that is pretty loud and has a 300 per cent mode if you want your neighbours to hear it, too. Furthermore, you also get a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is rare on phones these days, apart from a microSD card slot. There is also a side-mounted fingerprint sensor that is fast and accurate.

The Vivo T3X is powered by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1, which can be paired with up to 8GB LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage. This 4nm chipset is usually found in more expensive phones like the Realme 12 Pro and the Vivo V29e.

The phone remained smooth during day-to-day tasks, and I did not experience face stutters or lags when opening multiple apps or switching between them. I had the 8GB RAM variant, and it kept most apps open in the background.

There is also support for 8GB of virtual memory support that you can enable in the settings.

Furthermore, when it comes to intensive tasks like gaming, the phone can easily handle BGMI at 40 FPS (Balanced and Ultra), while you can play CODM at 120 FPS (Medium and Ultra). It is one of the few phones and perhaps the cheapest to run CODM at 120 FPS but I wish there was at least 60 FPS support for BGMI.

I also tried demanding titles like Genshin Impact and Call of Warzone Mobile, where I got around 30 FPS, which is decent for the price. The phone also did not get warm during my usage, with temperatures hovering around 35 to 36 degrees Celsius.

Regarding benchmarks, the Vivo T3x scores 944 in single-core and 2803 in the Geekbench multi-core test. Moreover, the phone throttles to 76 per cent in the 15-minute CPU throttling test and has a stability score of 99.8 per cent in the 3D Mark Wildlife Extreme Stress Test.

Similarly, you get a score of 557952 in the AnTuTu V10 benchmark and 48627 in the storage test. Overall, the Vivo T3x is a great performer in the under Rs.15,000 segment and performs similarly to the Realme P1 5G.

The Vivo T3x 5G runs on Android 14 out of the box with FunTouch OS 14 on top. Vivo promises two years of OS updates and three years of security patches for the phone. This means you can expect the phone to receive updates until Android 16.

The FunTouch OS 14 experience remains similar to other Vivo phones, although the first thing you will notice on the T3x is the lack of animations. There are no app opening or closing animations, which feels jarring, but it’s likely to improve the phone’s performance.

Similar to other Vivo phones, the infamous Hot Apps and Hot Games folder is also present. Thankfully, you can easily disable them by heading to the V-App Store.

There are also pre-installed apps like LinkedIn, Netflix, PhonePe, Snapchat, Facebook and more. However, you can easily uninstall these apps from the Settings.

FunTouch OS 14 brings various improvements, such as lock screen customisation with many clock styles and fonts. Furthermore, you also get new tools for editing videos apart from new filters in the gallery.

Overall, FunTouch OS 14 remains a featured pack experience, although Vivo needs to work on the presence of Hot Apps and Hot Games in addition to the plethora of pre-installed apps.
