The smartphone is also available in a variant with 6 gigabytes of RAM and 128 gigabytes of internal storage which prices Rs. 14,499. Poco M5 Design
The POCO M5 stands out among low-cost smartphones for its obvious design. It reintroduces the simulated leather material, combining it with a nearly identical black shade and two more eye-catching hues. It is encased in a Lego-esque plastic frame that is as flat as a brick. The top of the phone’s back has a camera module that wraps around its perimeter and is finished in glossy black with the POCO logo.
Although there is no official IP certification, the SIM tray is sealed with a rubber gasket to prevent water and dust from entering. With a weight of 204g, this smartphone isn’t too hefty to hold comfortably in one hand, considering the size of its camera module.
There’s a 3.5mm socket for headphones on top, power and volume controls on the right side, a USB-C port, a microphone cutout, and a loudspeaker grille on the bottom. The only feature on the left side is a SIM card slot. The frame’s flat edges make it possible for the smartphone to stand upright in either vertical or horizontal orientation without needing to be placed on a level surface.
Having considered the constraints they were under, POCO did a respectable job of giving the M5 its own identity without resorting to tacky gimmicks like glitter or fingernail-scratching creases.
Poco M5 Display
The POCO M5 has a 6.58-inch LCD screen that can refresh at 90Hz and features Full High Definition Plus quality. It’s easily visible even in direct sunshine, and its responsiveness makes it a useful tool. It has Widevine L1 compatibility, so Netflix videos will play in full HD, but it lacks HDR support, which is acceptable given the price.
Poco M5 Performance
With the POCO M5, POCO has made the decision to not include 5G connectivity, but the company is making up for this omission by including a robust CPU in the form of Helio G99. It is compatible with up to 128 gigabytes of storage and up to 6 gigabytes of RAM, the latter of which has the capacity to be increased by an additional 2 gigabytes via a function called Turbo RAM Extension. Android 12, which comes pre-installed in the POCO M5, gives you the ability to communicate with this device. It utilizes Poco Launcher, a specialized launcher that is based on MIUI 13’s UI.
Poco M5 Camera
The POCO M5 features a triple rear camera setup. The 50-megapixel main camera and 2-megapixel macro camera are housed in two enormous, symmetrical rings on the rear of the POCO M5, while the 2-megapixel depth camera is located in a smaller ring that protrudes to the left, like a tiny mole. The selection of these sensors does not totally persuade us, since we believe that an ultrawide sensor with 8 megapixels would have been a better fit for this situation. There’s an 8-megapixel camera right up front for all your selfie needs.
Poco M5 Battery
The POCO M5’s long battery life is one of the most notable features of this device. The POCO M5 features a large 5000 mAh battery. The MediaTek Helio G99 chipset ensures that the battery will survive for an extended time. If you are a typical user, the battery will operate for a whole day without needing to be recharged. One drawback is how slowly it may charge. It comes with a 22.5W charger from POCO, however, it can only provide up to 18W at most. This isn’t unprecedented; previous Redmi and POCO smartphones also came with low-powered chargers.
Poco M5 Verdict
The POCO M5 is a nice boost of performance if you’ve been using a cheap smartphone for a while. The interface has been simplified and is now less bloated than rival products, and the default applications are mostly functional and will help you get up and running quickly. The smartphone’s long battery life and striking appearance are also likely selling points. The charging times and the quality of the camera, however, left much to be desired.
