According to reports, WhatsApp is developing a new Desktop screen lock feature. The Screen Lock feature will prompt users for a password each time they open the application. It will add an extra layer of security to WhatsApp and protect against unauthorized access when the user is not using their WhatsApp-enabled device.

According to WaBetaInfo, an online platform that tracks new and upcoming WhatsApp features, the feature is currently developing. It is expected to be made available to some beta testers.

WhatsApp Desktop screen lock

The well-known messaging app is available on almost every platform, including Android, iOS, Windows, Web, and Mac. Moreover, at the same time, the Android and iOS Phone versions include a built-in lock feature that allows users to set fingerprint or face ID as the password to open the WhatsApp app. The same has been missing from the Web/Desktop version.

Furthermore, WhatsApp is now working on adding the feature to the web/desktop client app. As shown in the screenshot above, company is testing the screen lock feature for WhatsApp Desktop in the beta channel. Once this feature is enable and configured, the user must enter a password to access the application on the computer.

This is an optional feature you can enable in the app’s Settings. Once enabled, you will have more control over the application, messages, and media. According to the report, the password will never be share with WhatsApp and will always be save locally. If you forget your password, you must log out of the app and re-enter it by scanning the QR code with your device.
