Released on March 11, 2022, The Kashmir Files has garnered a lot of attention and praise from the Indian community. It shows the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus from Kashmir after the Pakistan-backed terrorists started systematic killings. On Sunday, the Gujarat government gave the Kashmir Files a tax-free status.
Besides Gujarat, other states, namely Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Karnataka have also exempted this film from paying entertainment taxes.

The Kashmir Files becomes Tax-Free in Many States
Recent tweets by the CMs of these states confirm the tax-free status given to this film. The following tweet by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel announces the tax-free status given to The Kashmir Files.
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai describes the movbie as a ‘blood-curdling’ and ‘poignant’ narrative of the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan calls the movie a ‘heart-wrenching narration’ of the pain and suffering of the Kashmiri Pandits in the 1990s..
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar was the first to make the film tax-free to encourage more youths to watch this “vibrant film”. His announcement on Saturday prompted other states like Gujarat, MP and Karnataka to take similar steps to make the film tax-free.

The director Vivek Agnihotri hails from Maharashtra and has retweeted the CM’s tweet to express his gratitude.
Besides chief ministers, even Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appreciated the movie. Many celebrities and influencers have also promoted the movie through social media. The Prime Minister called on the filmmakers – Vivek Agnihotri and Abhishek Agarwal, to bless them for making the film.
This film depicts the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus during the Kashmir Insurgency. The movie is produced by Zee Studios and stars Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Darshan Kumar and Pallavi Joshi among many others.

Reports state BJP MLA Nitesh Rane has also requested Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to make the movie tax-free. However, the final decisions from the Chief Minister is still awaited.
