TCL is once again teasing a foldable phone concept. However, this new concept from the company is aiming to bring it to a brand new level. The company is now teasing a Fold ‘n Roll concept device. This will transform a 6.78-inch smartphone into a 10-inch tablet. Moreover, it will be built on TCL’s ‘DragonHinge’ technology. It offers an extendable display panel that can transform a 6.87-inch phone into an 8.85-inch phablet size or a 10-inch tablet.

In this Fold ‘n Roll concept, the ‘DragonHinge’ is a three-part technology. It refers to the 0-180 degree fully inward foldable AMOLED display by TCL. It is the flexible metal joins that frames it, and the software that bifurcates, expand, or switch between apps on the display.
However, apart from this – the company does not divulge further details on the Fold ‘n Roll concept device. According to a report, TCL “still exploring the technical specifications” of this type of device. Furthermore, the company aims to launch some kind of foldable phone before the end of this year.

Moreover, this is not the first time TCL sharing its foldable smartphone concepts like Fold ‘n Roll. But there’s a long-distance between creating concepts and turning them into mass-market products. However, TCL still stands as that one brand that can close the gap in the rollable market: affordable devices. Flexing, rolling phones are mostly for the high-end of the market right now. However, TCL may be well-positioned to offer a less costly option.
Samsung has hinted at a cheaper flexible device but its current Galaxy Z Flip and Z Fold 2 options are still very costly. LG Electronics, which has quit the smartphone business, also showed an ‘LG Rollable’ device with a resizable screen with a side-rolling display.
