Valve has launched a new variant of its popular Steam Deck handheld console. The new Steam Deck OLED features an improved display and better battery life for a more enjoyable gaming experience. It will compete against the Nintendo Switch OLED, which has a similar OLED screen.
Steam Deck OLED Launched With HDR Support
The new Steam Deck OLED, as the name suggests, features a 7.4-inch OLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 1280×800 pixels. This is larger than the 7-inch LCD screen on the regular Steam Deck.

Furthermore, the new screen has a peak brightness of 1000 nits and support for HDR. The new Deck also has an updated 180Hz touch sampling rate for better accuracy and latency.
The 6nm AMD Zen 2 APU with four cores and eight threads powers the Steam Deck OLED with a clock speed of 3.5GHz and an RDNA 2 GPU clocked at 1.6GHz, offering 1.6 Tera Flops performance.

The new Deck OLED also comes with 16GB LPDDR5 RAM with faster 6400MHz speeds. In addition, the handheld packs a new thermal module that offers better performance. It runs on Steam OS 3 and comes with up to 1TB of NVMe SSD. This can be further expanded via the microSD card slot.
For controls, the Steam Deck OLED has two thumbsticks, a D-Pad, ABXY buttons, two left and triggers and bumpers. Furthermore, you also get four assignable buttons apart from the view and menu buttons. You also get a dual microphone array, stereo speakers and a 3.5mm headphone jack for audio.

The Steam Deck OLED has a larger 50Wh battery, which offers 30 to 50 per cent more battery life. There is a 45W charger that can charge the Deck from 20 to 80 per cent in just 45 minutes.
It has tri-band Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 with aptX HD support for connectivity. The new Deck is lighter at just 640 grams, 5 per cent less than the regular model.
Deck OLED Pricing And Availability
The Steam Deck OLED has launched at $549 for the 512GB variant and $649 for the 1TB variant. It will be for purchase from 10 AM Pacific on November 16. There will also be a limited edition of the Deck OLED with 1TB storage and unique colour for $679. It will be sold in Canada and the United States in limited quantities.

The company is also reducing the price of the 256GB LCD model to $399 and discontinuing the 64GB and 512GB variants of the older Deck. However, these variants are still available for sale for $349 and $449 respectively.
