Nothing is getting ready to unveil its next major software update, Nothing OS 5.0, which will be based on Android 17. The company has now confirmed the announcement date, giving Nothing phone users their first official look at what could be one of the brand’s biggest software updates yet.
Nothing OS 5.0 is scheduled to be announced on August 25 at 11:00 BST, or 3:30 PM IST. The company has teased the event with the tagline “More joy, every day”. While Nothing has revealed specific features yet, the announcement could bring new personalisation options and a refreshed user interface.
Nothing OS 5.0 Features Could Focus On Personalisation
Nothing has kept details about the upcoming software under wraps. However, its announcement teaser has sparked speculation about a more colourful and customisable interface.
The update could bring changes such as:
- New widgets and customisation options
- More lock screen clock styles
- New icon packs
- Colourful interface elements
- Updated animations and visual effects
- Features based on Android 17

Nothing has also reportedly started a community review programme involving Phone (3) users. Although the company has not directly confirmed that the programme is for Nothing OS 5.0, it could indicate that testing is already underway.
The company is expected to reveal the full feature list and beta rollout plans during the August 25 announcement.

Based on Nothing’s software upgrade commitments and the Android versions already received by its phones, several current models are expected to receive Nothing OS 5.0.
The Nothing OS 5.0 eligible devices are expected to include:

- Nothing Phone (3)
- Nothing Phone (3a)

- CMF Phone 2 Pro
The Nothing Phone (1) and Nothing Phone (2) are unlikely to receive the new update as they have reportedly reached the end of their major software support cycle. The CMF Phone 1 is also expected to miss the update.
Nothing could begin the Nothing OS 5.0 beta rollout with its newest models, including the Phone (4a) series and Phone (3), before expanding it to other eligible devices. The final supported device list, features and rollout schedule should become clear on August 25.
