Know Everything About India’s First 5G Call Made At IIT Madras

Yesterday, the Indian Ministry of Communications, Electronics and Information Technology tested India’s first 5G call at IIT Madras. After PM Narendra Modi launched the country’s 5G testbed earlier this week, telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw successfully tested an audio and video call on the new 5G spectrum. Minister Vaishnaw was also praising the network’s indigenous origins, stating that the entire end-to-end network was developed in India.

The Telecom Ministry intends to begin auctions for the upcoming 5G spectrum soon, while the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) will investigate spectrum pricing recommendations and other nuances. The Indian government has devised a detailed timeline for the 5G network, with services set to begin in 2022-23. Interestingly, India intends to enter the 6G space by 2030, with testing beginning as early as 2024.

India’s First 5G Call Gets A Boost

Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw made India’s first audio-video call over 5G network. Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inauguration of the nation’s first 5G testbed at IIT Madras. The tested, developed by IIT Madras at a cost of Rs. 2,20,00,00,000 will assist Indian players in manufacturing and certifying in India, reducing reliance on foreign bodies.

“We’re proud of the IIT-Madras team that has developed the 5G test pad. Which will provide huge opportunities to the entire 5G development ecosystem and the Hyperloop initiative. Ashwini Vaishnaw said after the test’s success. The Railways Ministry will enthusiastically support the Hyperloop initiative. Ashwini said that the new solution will commercially available through the state-owning BSNL. At a later date, through private operators.

For 4G and 5G networks, BSNL will collaborate with the Centre for Development of Telematics (CDot), an Indian government-owned organization. With TCS and Tejas, Tata Group will enter the picture. The BSNL network will be upgrading to 4G and then to 5G.

Next week, the Department of Telecommunications will most likely submit the 5G spectrum auction proposal. They will submit it to the Union Cabinet for approval. With in-house development and manufacturing, India hopes to achieve higher efficiency and lower costs while deploying a full stack 5G network for consumers.
