The Indian govt sets up panel to regulate online gaming business in the country. According to a government source, the government has formed an inter-ministerial group. This committee will work on online gaming legislation and to select a nodal ministry to regulate the industry. The seven-member council includes the CEO of the government think tank Niti Aayog. The panel will include secretary of home affairs, revenue, industries and internal trade, electronics and IT, information and broadcasting, and sports.

According to the source, the panel will look into numerous factors to boost online gaming and design regulatory processes for the market, including player protection and convenience of doing business.

The Federation of Indian Fantasy Sports (FIFS) applauded the government’s move to establish an inter-ministerial task force on internet gambling.

“This move demonstrates the government’s willingness to support the growth of India’s online gaming industry. The task force is an important step toward ensuring regulatory clarity for the small and rapidly expanding online gaming industry,” according to FIFS.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Skill Development, Electronics, and IT, met with FIFS chairman Bimal Julka, Fantasy Akhada co-founder Pratik Gosar, and Khelo Fantasy founder Santosh Smith, among others, to talk about the online gaming and fantasy sports industries.

The task force has been tasked with investigating issues facing the online gaming industry. Panel will be establishing a comprehensive and uniform regulatory regime for a responsible and safe online gaming environment.

The task force’s inception is in keeping with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambition of making India’s digital gaming sector a worldwide powerhouse, according to the statement.

“A uniform regulatory framework will go a long way toward alleviating the difficulties. Panel will compliance burdens faced by online gaming platform operators. Panel believes that the proper regulatory steps will have a good influence on India’s emerging industry,” FIFS added.
