Honor 50

A major step forward for Honor, the Honor 50 is the first phone to include Google Play Services in quite some time. Honor introduced the Honor V40 series in China late last year after formally separating from Huawei. A second China-only launch event in June saw the unveiling of three additional devices: the Honor 50, Honor 50 Pro, and Honor 50SE. The Honor 50 has now been released in western regions by the firm, and the major news is that both handsets now come preloaded with Google Play Services. Let’s take a look at all the features one by one. 

Honor 50 5G price in India 

The Honor 50 has a complete Western release and can be bought in Germany, France, Finland, the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom. Other European nations will also be able to get their hands on this one owing to Amazon. The variant with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage will cost €529 (about $615), while the one with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage will cost €599 (approximately $695).

Frost Crystal, which the business claims “is inspired by snow crystals and provides a lovely diamond-like finish,” Honor Code, which includes the corporate emblem across the back cover, Emerald Green, and Midnight Black are the colour options available.

Honor 50 Design 

Attractive, but not in a good sense, is the camera housing on the phone. There are four cameras and a flash in the two huge rings (or Symmetric Dual-ring as Honor calls it). You’ll discover a big 32MP selfie camera cutout in the display, which is far larger than Samsung’s Galaxy cutouts.

Still, the phone’s build quality is adequate for a less expensive model. Plastic is heavily used throughout, making it seem flimsy and light in the hand. Power and volume rockers have a solid and gratifying click and fit well into the phone’s curved casing. 

There are two speakers on the phone, however, the majority of the loudness comes from the bottom of the phone, making the presentation sound a little unbalanced. The fingerprint scanner is responsive, but the phone doesn’t have an IP classification for dust or water protection.

Honor 50 Display 

The OLED screen of the display package has a 120Hz refresh rate, allowing for rapid transitions and scrolling. Because it’s pre-configured to operate dynamically, it automatically converts to 60Hz when you turn it on. The settings allow you to lock in either 120Hz or 60Hz mode if you want. It’s a good-looking screen, but it doesn’t seem to be bright enough for outside use, even with the brightness adjusted all the way down.

Honor 50 Performance 

When it comes to the Honor 50’s performance, there’s nothing to complain about owing to its upper mid-tier Snapdragon 778G processor. In spite of its lack of cutting-edge flagship performance, the chipset has an improved processor, an improved modem that supports 5G mmWave, and support for LPDDR5 memory. When combined with 6 or 8 of RAM, there will be plenty of capability.

With the Adreno 642L GPU, the processor is capable of supporting a variety of gaming technologies, including Qualcomm Game Quick Touch and Variable Rate Shading (VRS), which allow game developers to deliver improved visual quality while decreasing the GPU’s burden.

When it comes to the Honor 50, it’s the first time we’ve seen Google Services on an Honor phone in a while. Magic UI 4.2 on Android 11 will be familiar to anybody who has used an Honor or Huawei smartphone in the recent past.

Honor 50 Camera 

As a part of Honor’s 50 series, the company emphasises both photography and videography. The phone’s rear camera array is completed with a 108MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultrawide sensor, 2MP macro and  2MP depth sensors. Honor incorporates the lenses inside two circular camera bumps. The front camera of the Honor 50 is a 32MP sensor. 

It takes acceptable photos with the primary sensor but falls short of the experiences given by other manufacturers at this price point, particularly since the phone’s additional cameras vary from tolerable to nearly worthless.

On the video front, Honor has several unique capabilities such as automated dual-view and picture-in-picture recording, which enables the simultaneous use of two cameras without requiring any post-production processing. This is undoubtedly part of Honor’s effort to court the vlog-obsessed youth, but if you have the ingenuity to use this function, it seems like a great addition to the Honor 50.

Honor 50 Battery 

The phone’s 4,300mAh8 battery comfortably supports a full day of continuous usage. In terms of speed, the Honor 50 has a 66W charger based on the company’s own Supercharge technology. Even when operating on pre-production software, it is lightning quick, topping up the phone to 50% in a little over ten minutes and to 75% in about a half-hour.

Honor 50 Verdict 

Honor’s newest phone is a fantastic option for mid-range budgets, particularly if you’re looking for a nice display, rapid charging, and great photography capabilities. If you’re looking for a phone with a lot of processing power, avoid the Honor 50.
