Apple iPhone 7 Plus
Released in 2016, the iPhone 7 plus houses a front glass body, a great camera, and improved battery life. The cost factor is always there, but it has been ever present with Apple devices, a feature of the premium flagship segment.
Storage options include memory as large as 256 GB for serious power users or hardcore photographers, but the absence of a headphone jack and a design that longs for improvement may turn some people to other devices. So, is it worth buying?

The iPhone 7 plus takes the iPhone 7, which is a great phone, and makes it even better. The noticeable differences between the two are that the 7 plus now has two rear cameras, one for wide angles, and one telephoto shooter, a larger 5.5 inch display, better battery life, and 3 GB of RAM as opposed to the iPhone 7’s 2 GB.
Even in today’s market, the iPhone 7 plus presents itself as a great ‘cheaper’ option in Apple devices, especially for those who aren’t willing to shell out INR 70000-80000 for the iPhone X. At around the INR 50000 range, the iPhone 7 plus isn’t as specification-rich as other Android devices in the segment on paper, but it easily outperforms the bulk of those devices.
So, if you have your mind set on an Apple device, and don’t want to spend the extra INR 20000 or so, by all means, go for the 7 plus. It is a great device, one for the photographers, we’d say.

The design of the iPhone 7 plus is a bit different from its predecessors, and is easy to tell them apart, due to the dual camera setup on the back. The phone is housed in an aluminium frame, has rounded corners, and retains the premium look and feel of an Apple device.
The lack of a headphone jack will upset some users, but it has become somewhat of a norm these days, arguably this trend has been started by Apple themselves. An adapter to allow you to connect your existing headphones is included in the box, however, which is a bit of a saviour.
The phone is water resistant, but not waterproof. It will survive accidental splashes, but will not by any means survive a dunk in the swimming pool.
The 5.5 inch, full HD screen may seem to be on paper worse than its competitors and other Android flagships, but it is still a joy to watch. Increased number of colours make it look even better, with the pixel density standing at 401 ppi. Crisp and clear text and images are still a feature of the device, as expected, with many people being sceptical about the display quality owing to the fact that other phones deliver QHD screens these days.
Comparing with the iPhone 6 and 6 plus, you can clearly see the increased vibrancy of colours in the iPhone 7 plus.
The phone houses the Apple A10 fusion chipset, which Apple claims delivers about 40% better performance than the previous generation A9 chip, and double the performance of the A8 chip in the iPhone 6 plus. On paper, it looks like the iPhone 7 plus is well equipped to handle whatever you toss at it.
It performs as expected, too. Games are a breeze to play on this device, and multitasking is absolutely no problem. The phone is among the fastest in its segment, with four cores and an increased 3 GB of RAM making the device feel snappy and impressive. No slowdowns or lags anywhere, even when streaming live content or playing heavy games, with impressive audio playback owing to the dual speaker setup.
Ah. The department where Apple always seems to triumph. The iPhone 7 plus is a prime example of how to create a mobile device which is a joy to use for photographers. Perhaps the greatest feature on the phone, the iPhone 7 plus houses 2 rear cameras, both of 12 MP, with 2x optical zoom meaning that you don’t lose too much focus while zooming in on to your subject.
Low light images are much improved over its predecessors, owing to the better quality cameras and lenses used in the iPhone 7 plus. The improved colour reproduction is noticeable, and the colours are very vibrant in general. The camera app is as always simplified and minimalistic, and offers all kinds of users with options to take the best photos.
The battery life is certainly an improvement over the iPhone 7. The battery is labelled to be of 2900 mAh capacity, and is a lithium ion one. It comfortably lasts a whole day on a charge, outlasting the iPhone 7 which has a 2750 mAh battery.
The better battery life is also owed to the two low power cores in the A10 chip, which handle the menial tasks, while the other two high power cores handle the more demanding ones. Relatively heavy usage sees the battery last a full day on a single charge, with nightly charging needed to make it through a second day.
Overnight drop offs in battery levels are as low as 4%, with power saving modes further helping the cause.
The iPhone 7 plus, even after two years of release, is a fantastic buy. For the cheap iPhone segment, it really offers great value for money, and has features to compete with most phones of present day, and even outperform them. The camera is something else altogether, so, if you are someone who wants to take unlimited photos with your phone camera, the iPhone 7 plus is a certain buy for you.
