    Zoom Introduces Focus Mode Feature

Zoom has launched a new feature called Focus Mode, which is designed to help students remain focused during virtual sessions and avoid being distracted by others. It allows teachers to hide student webcams and screen shares so that they are unable to see what their classmates are up to in class. At the same time, teachers will be able to see all of their students’ screen shares. Zoom’s Focus Mode will also provide hosts the option of deciding when students should be visible to other students during meetings.

When Focus Mode is turned on, students in a Zoom virtual class won’t be able to see their classmates. Although, this does not mean that they will only be able to see their teachers.  Students would still be able to watch their own videos as well as the names and emoji comments of other students in the same class. Students can also hear other students while they are not muted.

Zoom appears to impress educators with the Focus Mode feature hosting online classes. In other instances, though, such as virtual company meetings, it can be used. You can use Focus Mode at your next workplace meeting when sharing something; if you want your colleagues to pay full attention to your presentation. The experience overall of keeping participants hidden from others also sounds like what we encounter during webinars. Zoom can also be used to host a webinar. However, Focus Mode makes it easy for hosts to determine when they want participants to be hidden from others and when they should be visible to everyone.

You require Zoom Desktop Client Version 5.7.3 on a Windows or Mac computer in order to use Focus Mode. That means that if you host a conference on your mobile device, you cannot switch the feature on. Focus Mode can be enabled for all users in an account, group, or a specific selection of users by hosts.
