  • Apple’s highly anticipated Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2023) has commenced, and the tech giant is providing a sneak peek into its latest operating system, iOS 17. The newest version of Apple’s software for iPhones is packed with an array of new features and enhancements, particularly in the Phone and Messages apps. Alongside iOS 17, Apple also showcased updates for iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple TV, namely iPadOS 17, macOS 14, watchOS 10, and tvOS 17.

    During the event, Apple revealed that developers can get their hands on the first betas of the new operating systems this week, followed by a public beta release next month. The general public can expect the iOS 17 and other significant updates to be available in September, possibly coinciding with the launch of the much-anticipated Apple iPhone 15 series.

    StandBy Mode

    One notable addition in iOS 17 is the StandBy mode. Which offers users a new way to view content on their locked iPhone screens while the device is charging. When placed horizontally while charging, the iPhone will transform into an alarm clock-like display. Showing the date, time, live activities, widgets, and smart stacks.

    Journal App

    Another exciting feature introduced in iOS 17 is the Journal app. This app allows users to track and document their daily activities, thoughts, and experiences. Leveraging data from the user’s iPhone, the Journal app provides intelligent suggestions on what users might want to journal about. Users can include photos and activities in their journals, and the app ensures end-to-end encryption for privacy and security.

    NameDrop

    Apple’s iOS 17 also brings NameDrop, an AirDrop-related feature that allows users to share phone numbers with other iPhone users by simply bringing their devices close together. This streamlined sharing feature makes exchanging contact information effortless.

    In addition, iOS 17 introduces a live transcription feature for voicemail. Providing real-time transcripts of voicemail messages as callers leave them. Offline Maps are also making their debut in iOS. Offering users the ability to access maps and navigation features even without an internet connection. Furthermore, Apple has made some notable tweaks to Siri, removing the need to say “Hey Siri” and enabling users to activate the voice assistant with just a simple “Siri” command. Additionally, iOS 17 allows users to create and insert Live Stickers, adding a fun and interactive element to messages.
