Samsung is purportedly throttling the performance of 10,000 apps on its phones. We’ve seen several cases over the years of smartphone manufacturers limiting the performance of a select number of apps. Perhaps in order to get back more battery life. Now, it looks like Samsung might be doing the same. These reports first came to light hinting that the Game Optimizing Service (GOS) might be the reason behind it. Until today, no official response has come out yet. But it looks they are investigating the issue.
South Korean giant says its preloaded Game Optimizing Service does not manage the performance of non-gaming apps. The performance dip happened for some games such as Genshin Impact as well as apps including Instagram, Netflix, and some Google apps. It is also to be noted that benchmarking apps like 3DMark and Geekbench did not appear to be affected by the performance throttling.

“We value the feedback we receive about our products and after careful consideration. We plan to roll out a software update soon so users can control the performance while running game apps.”

Throttle issue on Samsung models to get a fix soon
Furthermore, the company also acknowledged the issue and posted a statement in its Samsung Members app in the Korean language. Look at it below:
Now Samsung says a software update is on the way to make this an optional setting.
As per The Verge, the update will enable device owners to choose whether or not they want this throttling to happen. According to Samsung, it is in small part limiting performance in order to keep phone temperatures down.

It is also believed that the throttling issue limits to Samsung Galaxy S22 series smartphones. However, Geekbench developer John Poole verified that the limiting of performance is also on older models.
