Lenovo recently launched its new handheld gaming console called Lenovo Legion Go at the IFA (Internationale FunkAusstelung) in Berlin. This Windows handheld packs some powerful specifications that can easily handle the most demanding AAA titles. The hardware inside can compete against the likes of the Asus ROG Ally and the Steam Deck.

The Lenovo Legion Go features an 8.8-inch LCD QHD+ display with a 144Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 2560×1600 pixels. This screen has a peak brightness of 500 nits and covers 97 per cent of the DCI-P3 colour gamut. Lenovo offers the option to lower the refresh rate and the resolution if you wish to get competitive and increase your frame rate. The console runs on Windows 11 Home with three months of free Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

It runs on the powerful AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor based on the Zen 4 architecture. This 4nm chipset features 8 cores and 16 threads with AMD RDNA 3 Graphics. This is the same chipset that powers the ASUS ROG Ally handheld. It packs a 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM with a frequency of 7,500MHz and a 512GB or 1TB PCI Gen 4 SSD. There is also support for micro-SD cards to further expand the memory up to 2TB.

The company uses Coldfront thermal technology for thermals to maintain consistent temperatures using the liquid crystal polymer 79-blade fan. This keeps the noise at less than 25dB even when running at its full TGP of 25W.

Handheld features hall effect joysticks for controls with minimal dead zones. In addition, there is an integrated track, large D-Pad, angled mouse wheel and ten mappable shoulder buttons, triggers and grip buttons. The power button and the joysticks have customizable RGB lighting. They can indicate the selected modes or act as a notification system.

The unique highlight of the Legion Go is that it offers detachable controllers similar to the Nintendo Switch. This allows for multiple playstyles and flexibility as the console also has an in-built kickstand. The right controller can be detached and placed into a base to act as a standalone mouse for precise aiming.

For connectivity, the Legion Go boasts dual USB Type C ports for charging and connecting accessories. Moreover, it has Wi-Fi 6E support, Bluetooth 5.2, a Display Port 1.4, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It has two speakers with a 2W output and two microphones for discord calls.

The Legion Go packs a 49.2Wh battery with 65W Super Rapid Charge support. The handheld can be charged from 0 to 70 per cent in just 30 minutes. There is also a Power Bypass mode that protects the battery battery from extra degradation while reducing the heat produced while charging. The handheld is 41mm thick and weighs 854 grams.

Lenovo Legion Go Pricing and Availability

The Lenovo Legion Go has launched for a price of EUR 799 (around Rs. 70,000) and will be available from November. For comparison, the Asus ROG Ally is priced at Rs.69,990, similar to the Lenovo Legion Go. While there is no word about the India launch or pricing, the company might launch the console if consumers have enough interest.
