Intel reported that the new Alder Lake chips will branch into three classes to power mainstream laptops, ultralight laptops and beefier desktop PCs. The three classes will be modelled on smartphone chips that combine high-performance computing cores for demanding jobs. This will lead to smaller but efficient cores that restrict the usage of high energy.

The Alder Lake Soc will have a different number of performance and efficiency cores for each variety. The fastest model will have eight of each. Intel’s diagrams showed mobile Alder Lake chips combining six performance cores with eight efficiency cores and ultramobile chips combining two performance cores with eight efficiency cores. The Alder Lake family of chips will be supporting PCs from this fall.

Additionally, Alder Lake will be the first chip released on Intel’s newly renamed Intel 7 technology node. Intel exhibited a range of chips from 9W to 125W that would utilise the new hybrid approach. This combines multiple high-end performance cores with efficient cores for a wider range of power and efficiency as per the needs.

Intel is already head-on with Apple and its M1 Mac processor, known for its improved power and battery life. The new Adler Lake Chip will raise the power and efficiency boost over today’s 11th-gen Core models code-named Tiger Lake. As a critical selling point, Intel laptops can now run for an entire day on battery.
