Apple Might Shift To USB Type-C As Early As 2024: Details Here

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple could switch to USB Type-C as early as 2024. A USB Type-C connector will be present in the upcoming AirPods models and Mac accessories. This is most likely in response to the European Parliament passing new legislation mandating USB-C as a single charging connection for various devices in Europe by the end of 2024.

Gurman also predicts that Apple will meet the legislation’s application deadline of late 2024 with most of its products. Furthermore, the Apple iPhone 15 will include a USB-C port and is to launch in the fall of 2023. However, the entry-level iPad still has a Lightning connector, although this should change before the end of the year.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple may switch to USB Type-C for its AirPods model and Mac accessories by 2024. This comes after the European Parliament enacted a new law requiring USB-C to be used as a standard charging connector for various European devices by the end of 2024.

Gurman stated that all AirPods, Magic Mouse, Magic Keyboard, and Magic Trackpad will have to migrate to USB-C. Furthermore, he sees multiple major Mac changes next year, including a new iMac and a Mac Pro, and believes “that move will most likely coincide with accessory updates.”

Gurman believes the USB-C era will be shorter than the 30-pin iPod connector or Lightning. The iPod connector and Lightning connector have been on new Apple devices for around 11 years before being phased out. Gurman feels that “Apple’s future is wireless.”
