Airtel is ready to roll our 5G in India in a matter of months after the spectrum auction. The telecom giant might be able to roll out 5G services within two to three months of the spectrum auction concluding. Previous reports suggest that the 5G spectrum auction is scheduled for May. If everything goes according to plan, we can get Airtel 5G by August. In fact, the release might even commemorate Indian Independence Day on August 15, 2022.

Though Reliance Jio had previously stated the first to bring 5G to India, nothing seems certain. If we are to look at the past few years, Airtel has been ahead in the game in specific areas of 4G technology and 5G trials. Airtel CTO, Randeep Sekhon has said, “While this is not a race, we believe Airtel is very ready to launch 5G after the spectrum auction”

Airtel 5G: What can we expect?

During its trial stages, Airtel had managed to deliver 5G speeds upto 1Gbps. However, the speed we would receive would be a bit different due to some factors like the number of devices on a home network, obstacles in range, the type of media being consumed and such. At home, people can expect speeds between 200Mbps to 300Mbps on 5G. Though this speed may seem too less for 5G, it is enough for most home and office related uses. 4G spectrum can provide speed in the range of 15-25Mbps.

Airtel 5G-Powered Hologram Interaction

The telco giant showcased the Airtel 5G network’s high-speed, low-latency capabilities that’ll transform the way we watch videos by recreating the in-stadia experience of Kapil Dev’s famous 175 not out vs Zimbabwe, during the 1983 Cricket World Cup. Besides replaying the video in 4K mode over 1Gbps network speed and 20ms low-latency, Airtel had India’s first 5G-powered hologram interactions with Kapil Dev.

During the event, over 50 concurrent users watched the match in 4K on 5G smartphones, with real-time access to multiple camera angles, 360-degree in-stadia view, shot analysis, and stats, The 5G-powered hologram interaction with Kapil Dev involved the virtual avatar of the cricketer on the stage to communicate with fans in real-time.

It has been some time since Airtel started conducting research and experiments on 5G networks at its ‘Network Experience Center’ in Manesar. They used the Ericsson 5G Radio in NSA and SA modes over 3,500 MHz band test spectrum allotted by the Department of Telecom, Government of India.

Tariff Rates of 5G Plans

5G is going to come to India soon and everyone is eager to know about the expected tariff plans for 5G. Randeep Sekhon has commented, “If you see globally, there’s not a major difference between 5G and 4G tariffs. We expect 5G plans in India to be similar to 4G tariffs.” This can mean only one thing – there will not be any major difference in the tariff rates of the existing 4G plans and the new Airtel 5G plans.
