Samsung Galaxy M20s

The Galaxy M series has been a big hit in the Indian smartphone market. Until now, we’ve seen the Galaxy M10, M20, M30, and M40. The Galaxy M20s is the latest addition to this line, and it is primarily, as we mentioned, a power runner. While the Galaxy M20 featured a 5000mAh battery, the new version hosts a 6000mAh, which is the dream of every power-hungry smartphone user!

The Samsung Galaxy M20s was only announced in one configuration: 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The phone was never released in India and is currently unavailable on Amazon, Flipkart, and every other major store. However, the company released the M20 in India, which is a decent budget phone in the market for under ten thousand rupees.

At first glance, the M20s looks just like M20 – you won’t be able to tell them apart. It has a sleek design with rounded corners that allow for comfortable handling. The display is practically bezel-less, except for a small chin at the bottom. The tiny notch at the top houses the selfie camera. It has a glossy plastic back panel that is a fingerprint and grease magnet. 

While the volume and power buttons rest on the right side, the left side houses the dual-SIM tray and a dedicated microSD card slot. At the bottom, you can find a 3.5mm audio jack, a USB Type-C port, and a speaker grille. On the rear, the dual-camera is aligned vertically on the top left corner with an LED flash resting just below it. There’s also a pill-shaped Fingerprint sensor on the top middle portion that sits flush with the phone’s body.

The Galaxy M20s boasts of a 6.4-inch Full HD+Infinity-V screen with a dot notch. It has a screen resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The minimalistic bezels and dot notch allow foe an expansive viewing space. 

The decent screen resolution offers the right viewing angles and accurate color reproduction. The texts and images all look bright and crisp. As for the sunlight legibility, it is pretty good – you can view the display content comfortably even when outdoors. 

Like the Galaxy M20, the M20s also uses the same Samsung Exynos 7904 processor designed on a 14-nanometer (nm) process. So, on the performance front, you won’t see much of a difference. While the two Cortex A73 cores (clocked at 1.8GHz) take care of performance-intensive tasks, the other six Cortex A53 cores (clocked at 1.6GHz) enhance the processor efficiency. 

The phone can handle everyday tasks very well, never showing any signs of sluggishness. You can also enjoy lightweight games on the phone. However, heavy-duty games like PUBG and Call of Duty aren’t meant to be played on the M20s – these are incredibly graphics-intensive that cannot be handled by a mediocre processor as the Exynos 7904. So, gamers steer clear of it!

Just like its predecessor, the Galaxy M20s features a dual-camera module on the rear – a 16MP primary camera coupled with a 5MP secondary shooter. The camera is loaded with many standard features including High Dynamic Range mode (HDR), Exposure compensation, ISO control, Digital Zoom, Auto Flash, Autofocus, Touch to focus, Face detection, and Continuous Shooting. 

In daylight settings, camera performance is pretty decent. It can capture beautiful shots with an abundant amount of detail. The images have good color reproduction and appear bright and vivid. However, camera performance suffers greatly in low light conditions. Pictures shot in dimly-lit environments depict a visible noise and appear grainy. Sometimes, they even appear out of focus. It doesn’t seem like Samsung has done a lot on the camera front with the new launch. 

Coming to the 8MP selfie camera, the results are not disappointing but not stellar as well. It performs almost similar to the rear cameras – bright and vivid selfies in daylight, blurry shots in low-light settings. When there’s ample light, the camera can capture facial details nicely and deliver well-balanced results. For any further alterations to your images, you can use the Beauty mode to enhance specific features like skin tone, color, etc.

This is where the Galaxy M20s stands to be the clear winner. The 6000Mah non-removable battery is more than enough for lasting you over a day, with ample charge left in stock! On a single charge, the phone can last you through an entire day and more for light-to-moderate usage. But if you are into hardcore browsing or binge-watching, the charge will drop significantly. Although you need not worry since there’ll be enough charge left till the end of the day. 

The phone has all the necessary connectivity options like Wi-Fi 802.11, b/g/n, Mobile Hotspot, Bluetooth v5.0, USB Type-C port, FM Radio, GPS with A-GPS and Glonass, Mobile Hotspot, and 2G/3G/4G support. 

Overall, it doesn’t seem like much has changed for the Galaxy M20s since the Galaxy M20. The changes are very minor, and frankly, you could do without it. You can opt for the new M20s only if you are looking for a power beast – the battery seems like the only redeeming factor here!
