Indian Railways has implemented significant rules for the Tatkal ticket booking system via IRCTC. This has been done to improve transparency, prevent misuse, and provide fair access to genuine passengers. These changes include mandatory Aadhaar authentication for online bookings, OTP verification at reservation counters, and booking restrictions for authorized agents during peak hours. so, read ahead to know these rules and the date of their implementation.
IRCTC Tatkal Booking Scheme: Know The New Rules
The new rules for Tatkal booking Scheme via IRCTC will start from July 1, 2025. It states that only Aadhaar-authenticated users can book Tatkal train tickets. This is as per a directive issued by the Railway Ministry on June 10, 2025, to all railway zones.

Additionally, from July 15, 2025, passengers will have to complete an Aadhaar-linked OTP verification process for Tatkal bookings. Under the new guidelines, authorized agents will be restricted from booking Tatkal tickets during the first 30 minutes of the booking window when Tatkal bookings open.
What Must The Passengers Ensure?
Passengers will need to link their Aadhaar number to their IRCTC user profile and complete the verification process to be eligible for booking Tatkal tickets online. All Tatkal tickets purchased at computerized Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters and through authorized railway agents will require additional OTP (One-Time Password) authentication.
