  • Google Pay, a popular digital payment platform, will now charge convenience fee of Rs 3 for users opting to recharge their phones using the UPI (Unified Payments Interface) service.

    This development marks a shift in Google Pay’s policy, as it previously did not impose any additional charges for such transactions. The Rs 3 fee will be applicable when users purchase prepaid plans through Google Pay.

    This move brings Google Pay in line with other prominent online payment platform. Those apps have been charging convenience fees for similar transactions.

    While Google has not officially announced the addition of this convenience fee, users discovered it when a customer posted a screenshot online.

    It’s important to note that this fee is applicable to both UPI and card transactions, as per the latest information. Additional details shared by tipster Mukul Sharma on Twitter indicate that recharge plans below Rs 100 will not include a convenience fee.

    Plans falling in the range of Rs 100 to Rs 200 will incur a Rs 2 fee. While plans between Rs 200 and Rs 300 will have a Rs 3 convenience fee. Transactions exceeding Rs 300 will also be subject to a Rs 3 fee.

    Google recently updated its terms of service for users in India, highlighting that users will be informed about applicable fees before completing a payment.
