The Google Pixel 6 appears to be taking shape to be the most exciting Pixel phone in a long time. Google has formally unveiled these phones, and they appear just like the rumours suggested: slim devices with a visor-like camera block that splits the rear cover in two.

While Google has officially disclosed certain details, leakers have been busy with the Google Pixel 6, and we’re constantly hearing fresh information about the smartphone. By scrolling below, you can find all of the essential details we’ve learned so far, including the first official Pixel 6 pictures.

Google Pixel 6 Release Date and Price

The Google Pixel 6 launch date is likely to be in the US in fall 2021 (somewhere in September – November). One rumour says it will launch on September 13, just a day before the launch of the iPhone 13. Another suggests the actual date in question is October 28, a surprising 45 days later, so as you can guess, there’s some variation in estimations.

In the United States, the Google Pixel 6 will be launching in ‘fall 2021’ (September to November) (Q3 to Q4 2021 elsewhere). According to one rumour, it will launch on September 13, one day before the iPhone 13. However, another claims the exact day in question is October 28, which is a whopping 45 days later, so there’s some room for debate.

Pricing is a little more difficult to predict because, while the Pixel 3 and Pixel 4 were more premium phones, the Pixel 5 is a mid-range device, and we don’t know if Google will stay in that price bracket return to the top. However, for comparison, the Pixel 5 cost $699 / £599 / AU$999, so we might see a similar price this time.

On the other hand, the standard Google Pixel 6 may be less expensive due to its lower specifications and simpler design. However, with a flagship-level SoC and new camera technology, we’ll have to wait and see if it’s as affordable as the Pixel 5.

There’s a camera block that extends out across the whole of the back, as well as a three-tone colour combination in a variety of options, as you can see. The Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are shown in the image above, with the Pro variant having additional space above the camera block. In addition, the Pixel 6 Pro features a slightly curved 120Hz screen of roughly 6.7 inches, according to YouTuber Marques Brownlee (who received hands-on time with the smartphones), while the normal Pixel 6 has a smaller 90Hz flat screen.

That screen size has been confirmed by Jon Prosser (a reliable leaker), who also mentions both models using OLED and claims that the Pixel 6 Pro’s screen is 6.71 inches (in line with Brownlee’s assertion of roughly 6.7 inches).

Camera and Battery

When Google first announced the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro via tweet in early August, the company confirmed that the former would have two cameras and the latter would have three — one of which would be a 4x optical telephoto lens. Because of the latest chipset, the Pixel 6 will deliver a significant video improvement over the Pixel 5.

According to leaks, the Pixel 6 includes a 50MP main camera and a 12MP ultra-wide camera, while the Pixel 6 Pro has both of those plus a 48MP telephoto camera. In addition, according to this source, the Pixel 6 has an 8MP front camera, while the Pixel 6 Pro has a 12MP selfie camera.

There’s no official word on the battery, but a source indicates the Google Pixel 6 Pro will have a 5,000mAh battery, while the Pixel 6 would have a smaller one. We’ve heard a similar claim previously, and the latest leak also includes information about the Pixel 6’s battery, which is 4,614mAh. They may support faster wireless charging than the Pixel 5’s 12W. According to one source, wired charging may also get a jump with 33W charging, up from 18W on the Pixel 5. However, that charger will not be included in the box; in fact, the Pixel 6 will not come with one at all.

When Google unveiled the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro in early August, it also unveiled the Google Tensor, the company’s first custom chipset, which the company claims will improve the cameras, speech recognition, and other features – particularly improving voice commands, translation, captioning, and dictation, as well as allowing users to do more things on the smartphone. Unfortunately, however, it doesn’t appear that it will match the strongest Android chipsets in terms of performance, according to a source who claims it would fall somewhere between the top-end Snapdragon 888 and the older Snapdragon 865 in terms of performance.

According to rumours, the Google Pixel 6 will have 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage, with the Pixel 6 Pro having 12GB of RAM and 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB of storage. Furthermore, according to the source, the two smartphones will receive at least five years of software updates, significantly more than other Android smartphones.

The Google Pixel 6 will include a fingerprint scanner built into the display. Of course, the Pixel 6 series will run Android 12. We already know that this will involve a completely new visual design and a significant focus on privacy and security.
